Android Hits 50 Percent Market Share, Still Losing to Apple (ContributorNetwork)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]ContributorNetwork - COMMENTARY | According to a report released by Gartner, smartphones powered by Android -- Google's open-source operating system for smartphones and tablets -- made up over half of the smartphones sold in the fourth quarter of 2011, with a 50.9 percent market share. That doesn't necessarily mean over half of the smartphones in use in the world are Android phones, but it does mean most of the ones being sold are right now.
