LINWOOD ? Karing with Kindness is a new neighbor to Gilda?s Club in their 700 New Road facility. Started in Toms River more than a decade ago to provide quality home health care owner Kathleen Kenny said she wanted to expand into Atlantic County and was looking for the best spot when she saw the space on New Road and knew they were ready to make the move.

Karing with Kindness really wears several hats in the healthcare spectrum. They are first and foremost a private vocational school providing training for certified nurse?s aides and certified home health aides. Kenny said she wants to know that each CNA or CHHA that she sends to a person?s home is properly trained and that they have the warmth and compassion that she would personally want a person to have that was working with her family members. The best way to do that is to train those healthcare workers. The owner said she is often asked what the requirements for her students are.

?It?s pretty simple, have the passion to help others and everything else will come along,? said Kenny.

The New Road facility is equipped with classrooms for instruction as well as rooms that are laid out like a hospital room and a nursing home room so each of the workers is accustomed to work environment prior to their going out on the required clinical rotations that Kenny arranges with several of the local long term care facilities.

?Most often our students get a job offer when they complete their clinical,? said Kenny.

But the owner said what is of utmost importance to her is that graduates from her program intrinsically have the capacity for respect and compassion of the people they are helping.

?The health care aids that Karing with Kindness sends to your home are givers and not takers. Our job is to help people to maintain their independence and allow them to be comfortable and safe in their own home,? said Kenny. ?It is a proven fact that older patients are happier and healthier if they are able to stay in their own home. We provide the reliable and dependable service they need to remain in their homes.?

Kenny said over the years her girls would say that a patient needed this supply or that and could we get them a lift chair, a hospital bed or bath safety items and that led her to become a certified agent for durable medical supplies. Their Linwood location has a room dedicated to those medical supplies.

Kenny has added two boutiques to their new location; a wig room and a room loaded with the supplies for women recovering from a mastectomy. Decorated in pink, lace, pearls and with the image of Audrey Hepburn glancing down from the wall the Power of Pink Room is a special spot.

?I had just finished setting up the room and a client came in and said they felt like they were in Victoria?s Secret and I knew I had accomplished what I set out to do with this room,? said Kenny. ?Every woman has the right to look good and be balanced and feel sexy. She is still the same woman she has always been; that did not change because her breast was removed.?

They carry prosthetics, camisoles, over 100 styles of bras including strapless and compression and supplies that women can wear even as they are just leaving the hospital.

?Part of the recovery process is to maintain your self image and we certainly are working to do that here,? added Kenny.

The wig boutique caters to women who have lost their hair from alopecia and chemotherapy.

Karing with Kindness is hoping to have their first class in the new Linwood location starting in November. They are accredited by the Veterans Administration, Medicaid and other insurance carriers.

Karing with Kindness workers are available for 2 hours or 24 hours a day to meet the patients and family?s needs. They are located at 700 New Road in Linwood, Next to Gilda?s Club and near City Hall. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., (609) 601-2150 or visit www.karingwithkindness.com.
